How to use a Roundabout.

It has come to my attention that not that many people know how to use a roundabout. First of all what is a Roundabout? A Roundabout is a circular road that connects numerous junctions or exits. For most people driving in Oklahoma City the concept may be unusual.

Here are my tips for what to do should you encounter a roundabout.

1. Don't panic, scream or wave your arms dramatically in a random pattern.

2. Don't slam on the brakes, assume the fetal position or accelerate wildly while jamming your palm on the horn.

3. Slow down and look in both directions, pay attention to the junctions and exits but be aware that you have to yeild to the left (in the US).

4. If nothing is coming from your left you can enter the roundabout. If something is coming don't try to head it off or ram it with your huge SUV!

Is a Facebook Fan Page Right for your Business?

To have or not to have a Facebook Fan Page is a decision that every business owner will face sooner or later. And while for some businesses the answer may be no, for many others, having a Fan Page can prove to be a very powerful and cost-effective online marketing tool.

What’s the point in creating a Facebook Fan Page?

In just a few years, social media has more than proven its power and appeal to both businesses and the consumers they are targeting, with Facebook blazing the trail. According to statistics:

•    Facebook boasts more than 400 million users from around the globe
•    20 million users connect with Facebook Pages every single day
•    Nearly 2 million local businesses have active Facebook Pages

Unlike individual Facebook Profiles and User Accounts, Facebook Fan Pages are designed specifically for “organizations, businesses, celebrities, and bands to broadcast great information to fans in an official, public manner.” These Pages allow you to upload everything from your company’s logo, latest ads and news, to contests and pictures.

In addition, administrators of these Fan Pages are provided with valuable metrics from the Fan Page Insights tool, which allow you to measure the number of fans you have, the percentage of your overall website traffic that is Facebook generated, most active countries, page views and more.

Losing Control of Your Data Could Cost You Your Business

data.jpg“Jojo was a man who thought he was a loner But he knew it wouldn’t last.”

Those first lines of “Get Back” are familiar to many of us Beatle fans but how many of you know that those catchy piano parts were played by Billy Preston who became one of several “fifth Beatles”?  The song’s composition started during a January 1969 jam session and eventually took over 4 months and almost 30 takes before they got it right.  Eventually the lads chose “take 11” as the best and had EMI produce a monaural remix in early April 1969.  But even then Paul McCartney was not happy with the mix so he booked time at the Olympic Studios to have an edited version recorded using “take 11” and the coda from a session in late January.  The result made it to release as a single on April 17th and was the only Beatle’s single to ever enter the charts as number one and the last Beatles single to be released in mono.

To blog or not to blog?

Be_heard.jpgBlogging seems to be a big deal again. Blogging if done well has always been a big deal but the topic comes up every now and then and gets more attention. As an Oklahoma web design company, Directing Design inc., is advisor to many companies. We are asked about social media, internet marketing and blogging all the time.

Any company with a level of expertise will find they need to offer advice or suggestion. The problem is many companies just don't take advise? When designing a web site we inform our clients that they should always consider some sort of internet marketing, blogging can be PART of your marketing strategy.

It's easy to over simplify!

Blogging in itself will NOT get you a huge amount of notice or traffic. There are a number of things to consider if you are going to write a blog for you company, specifically as a way to get additional traffic or leads.

Why should you blog?
You should blog as PART of your online marketing strategy. You should blog if you commit time to making regular posts (we are bad at this I admit). Post at least once a week. If you don't have time, hire someone to do it for you. If you aren't going to post or pay someone to manage your blog just DON'T do it.

5 Important Rules To Remember in Website Design

Rules_of_website_design.jpgAs a business owner making your debut into internet marketing, it is important that you plan the design and development of your first web site with convenience and ease of use for your customers, as the primary considerations. Often, my clients ask me what advise I can give for them to have the most user-friendly websites. Here are the basic rules:

1) Don't use splash pages

Splash pages are highly visual pages designed to show off your designers skills. Of course, your visitors don't care about that. They arrived at your site searching for a solution, and splash pages, which are the first ones they see, are nothing more than flashy roadblocks delaying their search for that solution. If you don't want to dampen your customers' enthusiasm, especially those in a buying mode, don't use splash pages.

Marketing your website is not optional...

Marketing your website is not optional- it is a requirement for online success.

When it comes to their websites, many businesses believe, “if you build it, they will come.” But it isn’t that simple. Running a successful business on the internet requires having a strategic marketing plan in place that will both incorporate and showcase your company’s website. Unfortunately, many businesses spend more time and money on developing their websites than they do on implementing an online marketing strategy to effectively promote them. As a result, they often experience a costly disconnect between website usability and visibility.

Poor development.

While it’s no secret that having a website is a necessity, building one without giving careful consideration to your company’s goals and the needs of internal and external clients can actually do more harm than good to your business. Your website should be more than just a place holder for your business online; it should accurately represent and reflect your brand, vision and target audience.
